Little Kids FAQ

Nursery FAQ’s

What food and formula milk do you supply?

Our cook provides home cooked meals that are carefully designed especially for the children, incorporating a healthy nutritionally balanced diet. Fresh fruit and vegetables are used on a daily basis. A morning snack and afternoon drink is provided, and fresh water is available throughout the day; Special diets can be catered for. Babies are weaned on home-cooked food and formula milk is provided by the nursery, we will only use formula milk from a sealed container, and once opened we will write the date of opening on the container and will use it only up until the manufacturer’s expiration date and to the manufacturer’s instructions.

What should my child bring to Nursery?

A change of clothes is essential, because you just never know. Extra changes are vital if your child is toilet training. Sun cream and sunhats in the Spring and Summer are needed, and wellington boots and warm outdoor wear for the Autumn and Winter allow us to play out, whatever the weather. Children can bring a comforter or soft toy to help them to settle in, but we would ask that toys from home are kept to a minimum, as we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage. Please ensure that you label clearly all your child’s belongings.

Do I need to supply nappies?

No, all nappies, wipes and nappy creams are provided. If you wish to provide an alternative, we are happy to use these, please ensure that they are labelled with your child’s name.

Are you closed for any holidays?

We are closed on all Bank Holidays throughout the year, and close at 1.00 pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve if these should fall on a week day, to allow our staff to spend this time with their families.

Do you have Parent’s Evenings?

Yes, we have Parent’s Evening each term. We use these to converse with parents on a social basis, something we don’t have much time for during the busy day. We also have activities for you to view so that you can see what your little one gets up to throughout their day.

How will I be kept up to date with my child’s progress?

We use the Tapestry early years online learning journey to capture your child’s learning and development. Staff will use photographic and written observations to record your child’s experiences. Parents will be invited through an email to join Tapestry and this will enable you to see your own child’s day at nursery.

What happens if I’m late picking up my child?

There are occasions when you might be late picking up your child, in the first instance, please contact us as soon as possible to tell us that you will be late. If you are consistently late in collecting your child, there will be a late collection fee of £5.00 per 5 minutes for collection after we close at 6pm, and £2.00 per 5 minutes late collection during standard opening hours.

How do I pay for my child’s sessions?

Fees are payable monthly in advance. We invoice on the 1st of every month and ask parents to pay by the 7th of that month. If payment is not received by the 7th a charge of £5.00 will be added for any balances under £100. For balances over £100 a charge of £20.00 will be added to the account. We accept childcare vouchers, electronic transfers, cash and card payments. Details for voucher payments and bank transfers can be found on our parent’s page. If you are paying by card it can be processed in the main office or over the phone.

Do you offer term time places?

As well as regular booked sessions we do also offer term time places which will run for 38 weeks of the year. Extra sessions can be booked during the school holidays if required when availability and ratios allow.

What will happen before my child starts nursery?

A month prior to starting at nursery, we will contact you to arrange an initial visit at a time convenient to you. This enables us to build up a good relationship with you and your child. There is no charge for the settling in period, our aim is to ensure that you and your child are both happy and confident to join us at nursery.

I feel, as a family, very welcomed. I felt at ease knowing my child was in the care of Kids Count from day one
